It’s been a while, I know. But as followers of my Twitter feed will testify, I haven’t gone radio silent...
Rather, I discovered CommsChat. A lively, informal Twitter discussion between PR professionals, exchanging thoughts on anything and everything in the world of comms.
Now a staple of my Monday nights, there’s nothing I love more than kicking off the week armed with a cup of tea, a keyboard and an opinion or two on the topic of the week (something I’m never short of).
A handful of questions are asked at intervals throughout each chat to get the ball rolling, while weekly guests provide an insight into their specialist fields, making it a great way to get an insight into any areas you’re looking to brush up on in the company of industry experts.
Previous topics of discussion have included anything from social media strategy and crisis comms to the importance of traditional media relations in an increasingly digital world. And if there’s a particular topic you’re itching to discuss with fellow practitioners, you can pitch your suggestions to the CommsChat team.
Like I say, I’m a relatively new Comms ‘chatter’ but I’ve already found plenty to talk about. A recent chat debated the value of a degree in the PR industry – a subject that has personal resonance for me and one regular readers will know I’ve voiced my opinions on before.
Equally, there have been topics I’m less qualified to comment on, but the whole point of CommsChat is that it’s not simply a broadcasting platform. It’s a friendly, virtual community based on common interest, offering an interactive space to learn from fellow PRs, take on board different viewpoints and share best practices – it’s ok to disagree too (we’re a civilised bunch!)
Transcripts of each chat are made available on the CommsChat website each week and provide a good insight into what to expect for any newcomers out there. If you like what you see, why not join the conversation this week where we’ll be discussing regional PR and the importance of awards events in the industry.
Hope to see you there!
CommsChat takes place on Twitter every Monday between 8pm and 9pm.
